Nah, its all indoors so just the stadium lights plus flash. Really hard environment. Guy I was talking to reckons he used to get up into the cat walks and set up strobes on slaves. Not sure if thats right though, would be more than 15mtrs up??
I find myself struggling with this environment on 2 levels
1. Technically with the light and the use of flash which I dont fully understand as yet
2. As a result of point 1, and the restriction of being on the inside of the track and nature of the cyclists going around in circles I am not feeling very creative about how to shoot them:o :( :(

Yeah the flash in the roof is popular for some indoor sports (including Basketball in the US).
If you are shooting at f/4, 15m just needs a flash with a GN of 60 (in theory) at ISO 100.

These are good forno but the creativity thing, I understand. That's half of why I stopped shooting at the dirt track. After you get a shot of the guys doing their thing, the rest look the same. When they change paint schemes or sponsors then you can sell more prints (sponsors usually want posters for their businesses) but if those things don't change, sales stagnate. Sometimes there's a crash but the lights are too dim to capture it well, and they're few and far between because track owners are absolutely anal about safety, which is understandable of course. Just boring.
So basically just get what you can. Don't expect much artistic output in this type of environment...at least not over the long term.

Yeh, I know what you mean, a couple of the shots show the cyclists looking for the opposition which is about as exciting as it gets
And I missed the crash not 30 foot behind me:mad:
