How do I reduce the size of a picture so I can upload to a website, which has a maximum data size limit? I have a Panasonic DMC-TZ1 and most of my pictures tend to open in Macromedia Fireworks 8.

I use MS Paint for if I need to resize something in a hurry. Just right-click on the picture file you want to resize and click Open with... From the list of programs, select Paint.

In Paint, go to the Image menu and select Stretch/Skew. You can reduce the size of the pic by lowering the Horizontal and Vertical %. Keep the numbers the same for both H and V so your pictures won't come out funny.

Thanks, When I try to open pictures, I sometimes get a list of different programs in which to open the picture. I dont really know anything about any of them, but I think I definitely have MS Paint. I just opened it and did it. Youre right that was pretty easy, but do you know if there is a way to exactly reduce the size of the picture so that the KB limit size can be made? otherwise I have to just keep guessing by reducing the % size and checking back and forth after saving it again and again etc. If not, its ok. It took me long enough to try to figure out how to just simply reduce the pic size at all. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome.

About the size, that can be a bit difficult since different pictures have different compression levels. Add to that the different formats. For instance, I had a 10MB jpg file which I reduced to 50%. I was a bit surprised that the output file was just under 500kB. I'm no expert at this so I also do trial and error if file size becomes an issue.

I'm pretty sure there are picture editors that can do just that. I personally don't think they're worth my time as I rarely found a need to reduce the file size of my pics.

Remember, what software do you have installed. I could give you a better idea of what to use/do for size reduction if I knew what youre working with.
