Picture Perfect/Nikon

Just starting out here, I have a D40 and I am using the Picture Perfect software. I will up grade in time, but for know I have this question:
When burning a disc it gives me the choice to burn original photo, or optimized jpeg?

What are the differences?
Any advantages?
