We appeared to only have a couple of dropouts from the previous week....one of which was my Nikon mate...told him he wasn't welcome anymore :p (he is expected to return next week.)
CW broke out the big "Mutha" lenses this week....damn they were impressive. A few of the ladies looked at CW in a whole new light :)
I'm getting a bit of a complex though. Every time a student asks CW what the things are worth he gives them a rough estimate (give or take a cuppla thousand dollars). When they ask for "cheaper" alternatives....he looks at me for ideas. I swear he's even got a bucket next to him for spittin' in :p .
So I try to help where I can. He talks about the $70 Canon Lens-Hoods....looks at me for the E-Bay alternative....I begrudgingly advise $6.95 + $8 postage and handling :o
Then we moved onto Macro Photography. Out comes the Canon Extension Tubes valued at several hundred dollars. CW assured us that they use genuine "Canon air" and were much better than the lesser alternatives :D .
One concerned Student asked CW how best to get closer to Butterflies without them flying away. He offered his technical expertise such as extenders and dedicated Macro lenses but she was still concerned that the butterfly may still try flying away. CW looked at me for "alternatives".....all I could offer was Mortein or Pea-Beau. (apparently not quite what they were looking for :o )
The high-light (forgive the pun), was the demonstration of how the in-built camera meter can be confused with white and grey subjects. This simple exercise (photo of white sheet v photo of black sheet = very similar "grey" result) caused a hush over the room and general nodding of our heads.
For those new to photography....try this exercise....you may be surprised by the results.
So that's it for this week....stay tuned for next week's summary :)
