Hello guys/gals,
Is there anyone who owns and could share sports (or sort of) pictures taken with the S6000fd? I mean freezed soccer/baseball/flying birds etc. where you can see something that was really "frozen" by the camera while obviously keeping focus.
Although I've seen many, many great pictures on the S6000fd's forums so far, only two were like this - and to be honest, they didn't look that good... somehow the moving subject didn't keep focus well.
Thank you very much! This seems to be the last thing I'd like to checkout before getting my own S6000fd!

Paul,
Thank you for your reply - and if you don't mind me asking something as a newbie: when I look at picture 2 (the ball has just been thrown to the player, and it's right above and to the right of the 30-yard mark) everything is focused and the picture is brilliant - except for the ball!
If you select "Sports" mode, will the S6000fd just use higher ISO and shutter speed, thus degrading what was an excellent picture at ISO400? Or could you just manually use a faster shutter?
If you look at page 5, CMYanko posted a picture of his daugther kicking a soccer ball - and using a 1/140 shutter speed the same happens... the ball isn't "stopped" in the air.
The specs for this camera show a 1/4000sec range for shutter, so (again, as a newbie) I'm wondering if the results for both pictures wouldn't be better selecting a faster speed.
Thank you again, and congratulations on a great thread!

Well a faster shutter speed will definitely stop the motion but I wanted to keep the ISO low in anticipation that I might do some cropping later and didn't want to deal with the added noise. So to keep from having a picture that was too dark due to a short exposure I had to drop shutter speed to bring the light meter back to the center. I usually like to keep the light meter close to center or a bit low for shooting jpg, and I tend to shoot with it a little on the high side when shooting RAW since it's a lot easier to recover highlights with the raw software. (this is in manual mode)
It doesn't help the ball any that the camera focused on the receiver primarily.
Some of the other shots in that series were shot in ISO 800 and they turned out reasonably clean but I don't think I would want to crop them much. It's hard to see the difference on the boards but it shows up in print or while being viewed at 100%.

there we go... this is EXACTLY (sorry for shouting!) the kind of pictures from the S6000fd I was looking to see.
One of the main places where I'll be using the camera I'll buy is the soccer matches of my sun, and he's a goalkeeper. So to see aloded's pictures "closed the deal" with this model, I suppose.
Thank you imensely!
