I know some of the more recent Canon L lenses are weather sealed. This may be a good thing for those who need it. But how about competing third-party lenses? Just wondering if something like the new Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 DG Macro has weather sealing? Based on the price, I'm guessing not because you can't have your cake and eat it too... Not sure and curious :p

doubt it matters. Your 30D ain't. So either way, you're screwed. ;)

Found the answer: I don't think any of the 3rd party options for Canon are weathersealed, including the Sigma.
The 30D isn't weathersealed but I personally think of it as "drizzle resistant" :D - used it in a slight drizzle more than once, including today. Then I just wipe the camera and lens and fill the camera bag with silica gel packets, zip it up and leave it overnight (longer if I don't use it the next day).
I think it'll be useless for me to get a weathersealed lens anyway (ie Canon 70-200 non-IS vs IS) since 1. the "premium" over the non-IS version (and IS is almost useless for sports shooting) and 2. by the time I save up for the lens, it'll take me ages more to pony up for a weathersealed body (1-series...)
No lenses or bodies with the exception of the Nikonos series were weathersealed in the film days. Back then we used clear plastic bags to protect our gear. I fail to see why clear plastic bags can't be used today.

it's not completely useless, there's a pan mode.
