So i need to get a lens adapter for my S2 IS, however i am unsure why a 52mm would be better than a 58mm, or visa versa. I understand it somewhat has to do with personal preference; however, i want to get the one that is going to be the best. Suggestions?
:)
I would go for the 58mm adapter for three good reasons... Canon Tele-conversion and wide-conversion lenses. If you ever decide on using the above conversion lenses, the ones that's designed for the S2 and S3 has 58mm attachments.
Third reason, the S2 and S3 looks cooler on the larger barrel of a 58mm lens adapter. It could even pass up as a DSLR. :D
On the performance side, I think the 52mm is much more prone to vignetting. I don't have anymore details about this. Let's just wait for a more scientific answer from the more experienced ones.

If you plan on using special lenses like macro/telephoto/wideangle you would be better off with the 58mm. It is somewhat easier to find lenses, and it would be the least obtrusive in your pictures (as far as viginetting)
However if you only want something for filters and lens protection, a 52mm is quite nice. It will block less of your flash in lowlight situations, and filters will be cheaper the smaller you go. Its a nice addition that doesnt bulk up your camera as much.
If you plan on using your lens adapter for both of these consider buying both adapters... Keep a filter on your 52 and a lens on your 58... so you can switch easily back and fourth.

I agree that the 58mm looks much more buff (like a DSLR)

Yeah, I will definitely be using special lenses.
Vignetting is definitely something I would like to avoid if possible.
So it looks like the 58 will be a good starting point.
Thanks so much, much appreciated. :)
