I just set up my brand new Pixima iP6700D printer and printed some test photos. I shot the photos using a Cannon G3 4 megapixal. I was VERY disappointed at the output of the printer. I've read nothing but good things about this printer. I am confused. The entire image had visable dotting, especially in the brown tones. These dots are especially visable when the shading goes from light to dark. I am using older Kodak photo paper, could this be the culprit. I expected lab quality photos and got something far less. I am hoping its just the paper. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, is Cannon photo paper any good?

Yes, your photo paper is the problem. I assume you received Canon sample paper with your new printer? Give that a try and see if it makes a difference in your prints. I have found that the printer really doesn't like Kodak papers. I own the Canon iP6600D printer and I am very pleased with the prints using Canon and Ilford Smooth Pearl papers. I have also had good luck using Epson Heavy Duty Matte paper. Oh and you also have to tell the printer what type of Canon paper you are using. I also enable ICM.
Note- I have read this forum for quite awhile now and decided to register when I saw this question and that no one else had stepped in to help yet. I feel as if I know a lot of you just from reading this forum for so long. :)

I would definetly say the paper is the problem. Kodak paper I find is the worst paper out there. When I worked in computer sales I constantly had people bringing the paper back cause the pics turned out like crap.
Try printing with the canon sample pack that you most likely got with the printer. You may have to print more then one before it looks good. I found that the kodak bunged up my ink so I had to print 2 pics to clear it all out.
Good luck
