1. I will be going overseas on a tour in approx 6 mos, and will be taking along a digi cam with memory cards for recording things of interest on the trip. I haven't flown in a long time.

Are there any issues between airport scanning/screening devices which might corrupt photo images on the memory cards?

If so, are there protections available for the cards which will prevent screening processes corruption or loss?

2. Are there any viewers available that I could periodically look at my photos for quality control? Since we'll be on the move during the tour a lot, most of my shots will be taken for later viewing/review. It would be nice to be able to view my days take at the end of the day without doing it in the camera. I'd rather not waste the camer battery power viewing a bunch of photos one at a time.

1) Digital memory cards are immune to the x-ray systems used in airports and other security screening measures (unless you do something wrong and they decide to water board your cards)

2) There are a fair number of devices for storing and viewing digital photos on the road. None are really oriented towards only viewing. That means you will need to pay for a device with a 20-100GB hard drive. Most of those with screens big enough to make for quality viewing, let's say 2.5" or larger, will run you $300 and up. An option might be to pick up a cheap 5.6" digital photoframe that runs on AC power. Still this is a lot of extra stuff to carry just to review photos. If you are staying in places with PC's or TV's with video inputs you could use those instead. The TV mode will still require using the camera. But why are you so concerned about the battery? You are going to carry a spare and a charger I hope?

Yes. Definitely spare batteries and a charger. The only problem with a charger is power sources in third world countries. Not sure how to provide for the myriad of wall plugs I'd encounter. And, can I count on finding 60cycle, 110/220vac in most places?

I think maybe a laptop will be the way to go for viewing and it will also do for backup archiving/storage of the photos.

Carry an adapter for your charger. I'm sure you cn get a kit adapter with pretty much every plug you need on it. I have one for my ipod wall charger and I'm going to look for one for my camera battery as well. I'll let you know what I discover!:p

Most of the chargers that are 100-240 capable are also 50/60Hz. If yours is not you should checkout some of the 3rd party suppliers. I picked up one that is not only multi-voltage with a nice built-in flip out plug. It also included a 12V car adapter. I can charge this almost anywhere with just the country AC plug changer or via a small solar panel.
