S1 IS Problem

Our S1 IS has started acting up. Sometimes when in picture taking mode, the display is black with waving lines on light. If you switch to the menu or picture viewing mode the diplay works fine. If you switch it off and on enough times it will eventually work correctly. Has anyone seen or heard of this problem and what can I do about it?

You may very well have the CCD bug. Canon issued a recall on several digital cams (S1 IS included) and the details can be found here: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8288&keycode=2112&id=29819

If you don't live in the US, you will need to contact your local Canon authorized service center for the repair. If it is indeed the CCD problem described in the recall, needless to say that the repair will be free of charge.
