I want to display my pics at full res and have lots of storage room for them.

Which would you recommend: Flickr or Photobucket?

They both cost the same. Any advantages over the other?

I think you are going to get positive responses for both services. Both work great and lots of people love them.

Personally, I like flickr. I don't upload for res pics though (even though I could) as I personally don't have any need to do it. And I do know that you can limit the sizes that others see if you choose.

I like the social aspect of Flickr.... If you do use flickr, visit the unofficial DCRP Shooters group there.

I have a flickr and a photobucket account.. i much prefer the flickr and have all but abandoned my photobucket. The image quality seems to be better in Flickr. The upload still deteriorates the image quality but i seem to get more artifacts with photobucket. Also, the social aspect of Flickr alone is worthy enough reason for me to choose it. The community on Flickr is generally speaking, more artistic. And on flickr there's a greater ability for feedback- and hence for getting the advice you need to improve your work. I think Flickr does a better job all around of promoting the artistic side of people than photobucket does. I feel as though photobucket is all about the posting and sharing ELSEWHERE than internal sharing with other members.

Just my opinion though.. why don't get try a free account of each?

When you get a pro account with flickr, is there any restriction on file size or dimensions of your pics?

Pro account, 10mb per photo, no other size restriction.

More info here. (http://www.flickr.com/help/photos/?search=pro+account+photo+sizes#18)

I'm a bit annoyed by Flickr's owner, Yahoo. They've got very little respect for personal data or privacy, and are prone to changing their terms of service in non-favorable ways on a whim.

I wouldn't mind using Flickr for photo-sharing, but I wouldn't rely on them.

I've had a free Photobucket account for several months. I only upload about 1/4 of my shots perhaps, but last night I finally ran out of (free) space.

As I knew Flickr was another popular option, I read up on the "advantages" of a Pro account (full size, no upload limit, comments, tags, etc.)

So, I spent $25 last night on a Flickr Pro account. I want to upload all the photos I have on Photobucket, and add new ones.

So today I uploaded the first 17 pix. Then I opened Flickr and Photobucket to cut and paste the captions of the images.

To my dismay, in Flickr there is no way to sort the images by file name. ALL my file names start with a 6-digit date (yymmdd) then a "-number" for the individual picture (usually the suffix of the camera-created file name, though occasionally I rename that part to "fit" the sequence better) and perhaps a very short description.

Additionally, although the original file name is displayed as the (I'm guessing) title, Flickr actually internally renames the file. So, if you download an image, you will now have "3659946.jpg" - hardly convenient.

With Photobucket Pro, I would have a 5 gig limit (I'm already at 1 gig), and a 2 MB file size limit (I already compress them to under 1 MB and they will display essentially full size, so no big deal).

So I can have a unsorted mess with no space limit (Flickr) to continue indefinitely, or a logically organized spartan presentation that will run out of room again in 3 years.

Just a question for anyone why upload full res copies? I'm just curious.

For pixel peeping, and as another backup or archive are some reasons.

I use Photobucket for all my pictures with friend and from trips but Flickr is more of my "portfolio" type site. If i had to choose one id pick Flickr because it has a way better community.
