Hi:
I am considering purchasing the S6000FD on the recommendation of several members here. My main subject will be my son during his Karate class/tournaments. They are performed indoors with less than perfect light and no flash. He is usually 20-40' from me.
Do any of you have pictures of a similar nature that you would'nt mind posting?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

the S6x00 has a nice sports mode that should suit the karate.
the camera will probably pic a high Iso rating, and enable high speed shooting. This mode can aslo be used with continuous shooting mode. Where there camera will take up to 30 pictures a continuing sequence. It could be useful for gettting mid throw/punch shots.... as you will have multiple shots for the same action.
The higer iso may produce a noiser image. I'm finding iso800 to be fine with this camera tho.. High iso's also mean the range of the flash in increased. I'm not sure of the distance increase ( i think it doubles per level of iso) but it should mean the flash will actually have an effect over the length of the dojo.
You best bet is to try one of these cameras.... It's probably the best of the fuji cameras for high iso shooting atm because it has all the newer technology intergrated into it.
have a look at what the other parents are using and what settings there using to get pictures. It'll give you a good indication of the lighting.

you can always check out the Photos from S6000fd (http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26764) thread. I know I took some shots at a football game under a dome and there should be some other action shots in there.

On which page Paul? I can't seem to find it.
Tim, there are some NFL(pro football) pictures on page 4.

Thanks JCON, now I could see it. I always say S6000 is the best indoors non-DSLR money can buy for its clean image even high ISO useable to 1600.
On this link at ISO800, 1/100th sec. F4.9.

If taken at ISO1600, Paul would have 1/200th but at the expense of image smoothness though it would still be very good on small prints or internet posting.
TechDraw: It really depends on the sort of lighting you have at the martial art tournament. At 20 - 40' you don't have to use full zoom therefore you will have wider aperture than 4.9 of full zoom which means faster shutter speeds. On the other hand, I don't think the burst mode mentioned by nesbitt_bub1 will be very useful, it's just too slow.
The sweet thing about the camera is that noise will be obvious only from ISO800 up...
Good luck with your choice TechD. Please do come back and share some action images regardless of what camera you end up buying.

now this picture isn't exactly a fast moving action shot but.....it is in a terribly lit pool. The pool lighting has kind of a natural green yellow glow, very bad lighting. I am sitting on bleachers about 50 feet from my Daughter.
I only had the camera a day when I took this picture. I was shocked at how clear it was. She was moving, slowly because she couldn't figure out why I had my camera...But I took pictures all over the pool from the pool score board, to other things and they all turned out remarkably well and usable!

We have a swim meet on Sat! I can't wait to see what type of shots I get!
