I was in Circuit City today looking at the A710IS. wanted to try shooting in the continuious mode, the salesgirl was not real sure how to set the camera for burstmode. The only way she could find was to go to the TV? setting. Does this mean I could not use the continous shoot mode while using the Automatic setting? It did not work real well in the setting she chose. She kept lifting her finger up and down. I was under the impression that you could just keep your finger depressed and the pictures would take. Could someone clear this up for me?
Thanks,
Barb

I believe that burst (continuous) mode is not available on the Auto setting, but it does work on Av, Tv, P and probably some others. By default it is set to single shot mode, so you will need to access the function menu and change it.

Once set to continuous, you can hold the button down and it will keep shooting until you release. It will do about 2 per second with the flash off. It will be very slow if you are using the flash (It won't fire the next shot until the flash recycles, typically over 5 seconds)

IIRC, the Canons don't allow burst mode in automatic setting. You can put it in P mode which is essentially full auto if you don't set any of the settings and shoot burst.

I was using burst mode today while my Setter was retrieving at the shooting preserve. I use it a lot. It does not work in auto. Use P mode and press the function set button, then scroll down to the drive mode image and scroll right one time. You'll see the drive image change from one rectangle to several rectangles. Then you can shoot continuous as long as you hold the shutter button down.

It works great and I've gotten some great shots. One minor frustration for me is that when I turn the camera off, it resets to single shot drive so I have to go through the same drill again.

It's a nice mode. You will like it.

I just tried 4 of the A series cameras i have here A700, A540, A520 and A70 if i use the largest mode i get a busy warning if i shoot more then 3-4 shots at the max resolution. If i bump it down to medium and use medium sharpness i can hold the shutter down and it will just fire shots till i fill the card. Ofcorse the flash is off and i prefocused the shot before i held it down.

Im not sure if its the memory card im using or if its the camera. Ill have to remember to use a lower resolution if i want to shoot in burst more then 3-4 shots.

The fastest camera of the bunch is the A540. It was pretty fast, the A700 was just a tad slower.

That would appear to be the memory card, not the camera. The camera should be able to keep burst mode up at full image size indefinitely. What card are you using? Can you swap in a faster card and see if it can keep up with the full size images?

I dont know if i have any faster cards. How can i tell wich is the fastest? is the stock 16 meg canon card fast? most of mine are just standard SD cards but random brands. The A70 and A300 i tried use CF memory and they have the same problem when using the largest resolution and super fine detail. The CF card says its a 4X speed CF card it actualy will take about 6 before it gives a busy warning in both the A70 and the A300
