There are some peeps over at the other threads moving from the S3 IS to a DSLR (any DSLR). I'd like to see more conversation regarding the topic so I guess anyone can discuss it here instead.

No, I will not move into DSLR world YET simply because I don't have money to do it. It's just fascinating to see talented individuals who have maxed out their S3 IS' capabilities and are now moving on.

So far the S3 is the only camera i like. I want the swivel screen, SD memory and i want to use my own batteries.

I prefer to use canon just because im use to the canon layout. The way you navigate the settings i like how the canon cameras are setup.

Lots of nice pics in the other thread.
Nap, good topic.
I see one of us has already moved on to a 400D.
Looks like Xallo and Danielg are going Nikon.

I will also be moving on sometime after March. The PMA show is march 6-11 and they're a number of rumours that new cameras will be announced.
Was torn between a D80 and 30D but I've been a Canon fan for a while. I still have my Rebel S but I haven't used it since 2001 when I bought my first digital the Canon Pro 90 IS.

Reasons for the 30D. Speed and ISO. I take lots of photos of my kids playing sports and I hate using a flash.

I love the S3. Not sure if I'll get rid of it although I have a Sanyo Xacti C4 for when we're out on the slopes skiing. But the kids could always use a camera.

I added a Nikon D80 to my Canon S2 and I don't regret it.

About the PMA show and the rumors,.....would that be where Canon might announce a successor to the S3,..if they are going to upgrade it? Anyone know how long after that the newer cameras are available?

Well nap, I have been planning a move for a while now. Before I bought the S3 I wanted the D200 but I could not justify the expense. It's been a long time for me since highschool when I was using a Konica 35mm. I really only needed a camera for my business and pic don't need dSLR quality. So I ended up with the S2 which was a value compromise. I chose it over the G6 at the time.

After I dropped my S2 I opted to get an S3 primarily because of focusing issues and shutter lag issues. While better with the S3 they are still lacking. A flash system was not important to me back then but it is now. Not only have I realized once again that I enjoy photography I have a few avenues now that I woul like to pursue that require better equipment especially in low light situations.

The S3 has a lot going for it and delivers some fantastic results under the right circumstances. Unfortunately though my needs have changed so I'm moving on because of what it can't do. :)

I am not sure yet if I 'll be going Nikon or Canon. Am still weighing all the pros and cons and of course the financial aspect of things afterall I am not into this for the money so if its just a hobby for fun and stress release then I really need to think and pray if its worth it to go dslr :) If they come out with a S3is successor that has insane low light capability then I probably wont go dslr :)
