Hey friends.

...So whenever I want to practice and get the hang of my manual focus ring on my s6000, I get discouraged within minutes because, for lack of a better term, I find getting it right f!ck!n@ impossible. The lag time from any adjustments I make until I see the screen reflect the change in focus is ridiculous IMO. I've tried it with and without focus check, and at 30FPS & 60FPS mode on the LCD, and still no luck. I can lock focus pretty efficiently with my old kit lens on my Canon Rebel (35mm film), so I know it's not operator error.

I've come to terms with the fact that I may be expecting too much; I fully understand that it's an "electronic mechanically linked" zoom ring, i.e. it doesn't physically alter the focusing mechanism but electronically "tells" it to adjust as the ring is manipulated, so I account the lag for that fact if nothing else.

Am I the only one? Anyone have tips?

(On a side note, I also find the little yellow reticle circle that appears during manual focus as really inaccurate. It doesn't always turn yellow and give an accurate indication of focus.)

Ya the manual focus isn't worth much IMO. It's just not the same as on a dSLR. The EVF is good for framing a shot an that's about it. I don't think it's much better on the S9K series either.
Good thing AF works so well on these cams.

I can't imagine how one can possibly focus a six megapixel image accurately using a 0.2 megapixel LCD or a 0.1 megapixel EVF.

Well it isn't nirvana but it is useful. I've found somethings can be made sharper in manual focus. And when shooting in a first 3/last 3 mode/continouous, manual focus is much faster. Pretty much press the button to get close then use the enlargement to zero in. Sometimes I'll zoom in then back out...how much does the lens breath?
