View Full Version : Should I buy a Canon SD300 to replace my Olympus 4040z?

I have owned an Olympus 4040z for the past 3 years and here are the gripes I have had about it:

- it's so big that we don't take it very many places so we end up missing opportunities to shoot pictures
- it takes so long to power up and so long to take a shot that we miss some of the pictures we intended to take

Aside from those two issues, I like it but haven't used any of the features on it other than just point-and-shoot. I like the bright lens and the pictures seem clear.

I'm currently looking at the Canon SD 300 as a replacement because it seems to overcome the two primary problems that I had with my 4040z (size and speed). I read the review and my only concern is the quality of images that the SD 300 takes (edges are out of focus). My needs are just for 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 pictures so is the image quality something that I'm going to notice compared to what I have now? Am I looking at the wrong camera to solve my problem? Help?

The SD300 is what you need with your 2 points. Mine takes great pics, that look great at 8x10". No problems that apparently a few people posted that got very popular. Mine are in focus, no more purple fringing or edge problems than other cameras, and not noticable at 8x10, unless you go through dozens of pics and look for it.

I'm starting to get convinced that those who have posted about bad SD300 pics sell other cameras, but not the SD300. (I'm just a consumer who has always liked Canon Powershots, but love the SD300.)

Yep. The SD300 is faster acting than some of its similarly sized competitors (notably the Pentax Optio 4si and 5si). Turn it on and you're ready to shoot before you even frame the picture. Between shot speed is also very fast. The image quality is fine. Better than fine, in fact.
