Walking the dog over the hills this evening and caught Mt. Fuji peeking over the purple mountains to the west:

Another great shot Norm. It sorta makes me feel a bit cold looking at it. Was it teken recently?

Thanks, Grant. Yes, I took it Feb 1 while walking the dog. Unfortunately, that's about all of Fuji I can see within an easy walk of the house. From the other side of town, though, there are some spectacular views from a couple of the mountains over there. I hope to make an early morning hike up one of them while it's still winter to get some clear shots of the entire mountain.

A rare sight from Sagami/Fujino. I'll get back to my favorite island one of these days.
Hope this reply finds you well Norm. Guess I'll have to drop in more often.

Hi, George, I'm not around as often as before, either. You're right, on a clear day Mt. Fuji is visible from the Chuo Expressway for a few seconds after leaving Tokyo, but not from places actually down around the Lake. I climb the hills with my dog and know of several places that Fuji peeks above the surrounding mountains like this. You can see the entire mountain from Mt. Jinba on the north side of town, tho.

I was recently in Japan and you could see Mt Fuji quiet clearly from my wifes parents apartment on a couple of occassions. Not the best shot, with the power lines and all, but I thought I would chuck it in. My Inlaws live near Tachikawa on the Chou line.

Looks like you got the full dose of wires, grant! I pass through Tachikawa almost everyday on my way to work in Tokyo. Right now the sky is pretty clear morning/evening, so there are places to get a glimpse of Fuji.

Beautiful shot. I've noticed that many of my mountain shots have a similar light "outline" between the mountain and the sky. My efforts at PP tend to brighten it. Do you think this "line" is just a natural part of the scene? Or a product of the camera? Any suggestions for minimizing it?
Very beautiful shot. I also enjoyed the night moon shot. Thanks for sharing your work and advice :D

Thanks for commenting. The line is to some degree a natural result of the contrast between the sun behind the mountains and the darker shadows in front, but it can be exaggerated by excessive sharpening and contrast adjustments. It can become especially noticeable when producing high-dynamic range (HDR) images from multiple frames or multiple developments. I've never tried to reduce it using pp, but you might try isolating it by using an outline tool with feathering along the border, then locally reducing the contrast in that region. There might be other reasons involved as well, including the way I developed the RAW image, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.
