hey..

what is the differences between the f20 and f30 ?
i know that the f30's iso goes up to 3200 and the f20 to 2000...
is there another difference ?? because there is a big difference with the cost
(the f20 costs almost the half that the f30 does..)...

and can anyone post here some pictures of the f20 in high iso and in low light ??

thaks

The F30 has manual control options whereas the F20 does not. Also, the F30 has a battery with longer life and a few additional controls on the dial that, on the F20, you have to access through the menu. Also, the F30 has a 230k-pixel screen whereas the F20's screen is 153k pixels. Otherwise, it's the exact same camera.

I've recently researched both cameras quite a bit and came to agree with mattd, who said the extras on the F30 are not worth the additional $100 charge. I had decided to go with the F20, but yesterday I ended up buying the F30 because, with the $50 rebate, I was able to get the upgrade for an additional $50, which was worth it to me, mainly for the manual options and the brighter screen. However, if it would not have been for the rebate, I would have bought the F20 and been happy.

Of course, I've had some buyer's anxiety and have wondered if I should have waited for the F40fd to come out...ack! I can drive myself crazy sometimes.

Usually it's around $100 difference. I think with the rebate, I paid right around $200 for my wifes F30. At the time (Thanksgiving 06) I spent about $30 more than what I would have spent for the F20.

The F30 gives you Aperture priority mode, Shutter priority mode, and full Manual mode. About the only thing you cant adjust manually is the focus. Aperture, Shutter, and ISO are all adjustable with the F30 in manual but not the F20.

I'm not sure I understand your question. First of all, the maximum aperture on the F30 is f/2.8...there is no f/2. So, no, you wouldn't be able to adjust the shutter speed to achieve f/2. Second, the shutter priority mode works just as it does on any other camera. You select the shutter speed and the camera picks the aperture to achieve correct exposure. There is no full manual mode but you can use exposure compensation in both shutter and aperture priority modes, to get the exposure that you desire.

another quistion: cant i never control the iso ?! is there auto (number) iso .. i mean for example auto 800is so the max auto iso gets to 800...

Yes, you can manually select the ISO. On the F30, you can choose 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 or 3200. On the F20, the maximum ISO that you can select manually is 1600, although it will automatically go up to ISO 2000 in some of the shooting modes. If you find that too much trouble, there are the Auto 400 and Auto 1600 settings, which will adjust the ISO automatically for you, but will limit the maximum ISO used to 400 and 1600, respectively.

If you're interested in seeing high ISO, low light pictures from the F20, try here:

Like any 'fully automatic' cameras, on preset or scene modes you don't have control over aperture or shutter priority. You just point and click, then the camera decides ALL for you.

I also own the F10 which is similar to the F20. It has no aperture or shutter priority modes. Instead, it has scene modes and a "Manual" mode which really isn't manual; you have control over ISO, white balance, and exposure compensation. I preferred using the manual mode most of the time, and I found that it worked very well, so I'm confident that the F20 will have the same capability. The only mode scene modes that I used regularly were Night and Portrait, and I found that they also worked well.

thank you stephanie...
but the difference in cost between the f10 and f30 is about 40$.. so i think i'll go for the f30 in this case... still the f20 is the cheapest with no much difference...
