I have attempted to take a few series of panorama shots lately using stitch mode. They align alright most of the time but in most all of them I have what appear to be exposure difference issues with each frame. As an example, look at the sky in the picture below. Can anyone let me know if there is a particular way of taking panoramic photos with a compact?

Mine do this too. I chalk it up to the software I use. The overlap is noticeable on some shots and less so on others. I don't have Photoshop, but I believe it has a healing tool that can fix this issue.

That's strange. My panoramic shots from the SD800 have always come out fine. Exposure and WB should be locked when you take the first pic...It almost looks to me like a vignetting effect that's being replicated in each shot? I've found that by doing about a 30% overlap in each shot, you can rid yourself of that and you'll only have the vignetting in the upper left and upper right corner of the panoramic picture and you can PP that out.

You must use the same settings (exposure, etc) in all your picts to be stitched. You can set to M and set a fixed shutter speed and aperture.
Or you can focus on the same area as your first shot for all the other shots. You will notice that when you half press the shutter, the camera (in Auto or P) will focus and set its own settings. Since you are panning a scenery, you tend to capture different focus points. To solve this, you can half-press the shutter exactly as you did in the first shot then pan sideways (leaving half-pressed) and framing the successive shots.
Of course, post processing can greatly help as well.
