Hello! I purchased my first digital camera about 6 months ago. It's an S3 IS. I love it! But tonight when I was trying to open my recently downloaded photos I got the following message: "Could not open image because and unknow or invalid JPEG marker type is found." Could there be something wrong with the card? Or something wrong with the camera? Or a setting that I should change?

The type of card that I have is a SanDisk, UltraII, 1GB.

This is all new to me... any help would be much appreciated.

it could be anything right now..
can you answer some questions?

is this the first time this has happened?
can you review the pictures in camera?
how are you transferring the images to your computer?
USB cable, SD card reader?
what is the program you are using to open the JPEG?
does it happen with all images or just a few/some?

anyway to answer some of your questions
the card may or may not be bad.. it depends
it can also be the camera doing a bad write
settings in camera or windows would not have anything to do this this :)

Yes, this is the first time this has happened.

Yes, I can review the images in the camera.

I am using a card reader to transfer the images to my computer (which is a G3 iMac)

I am using Photoshop6 to open them. But I did try to open them in QuickTime too and I got a similar message: "Could not display image because a suitable graphics impprter could not be found."

It happens with most images, but there were a few that would open, but were currupt. I could see maybe an inch of these images, and then the rest were large blocks of colors.

I think that I may have figured out my own problem though. After I posted the first message, I took a closer look at the user's manual and I decided to format my card using my camera, which I hadn't done before. I tried opening those images this morning and it worked!!

Thanks for helping!
