Have a 1 year old KM 5D SLR which has been great except for a now increasing problem when first turning it on after its been off for an hour or so. Screen info comes on, but the first shutter release sounds abnormally long AND the picture resulting is black - no apparent exposure. Second and susequent shots all OK. Turning off and on again right away never results in the problem. Seems to need to be off for a while. Gotten to point that this happens most of time now when turning it on. A minor irritation - unless it leads to something more problematic.
Any other reports of this?

This is a known problem with some cameras and if it becomes a real problem the camera will need some replacement parts fitted.

Your camera has a one year warranty, which Sony will honor. Did you buy it more than a year ago? If not, hurry up and contact Sony quickly while the camera is still covered.

Thanks for info. looked at links and have feeling for the problem now.
Am unfortunately a bit beyond the 1yr warranty but at least problem is not very bad .... yet. Hopefully it won't progress to the point of the expensive repair. Or maybe Sony will do some type of recall to keep future customers from moving to the Nikon camp.

Just for information, I had an out of warranty repair on my 5D, and the flat rate for repairs was US$281 (ouch!). They told me when I set up the repair that if the problem was due to abuse or mishandling (ie things that would not have been covered under warranty) that they would quote the repair cost. Precision Camera in New Jersey was the repair facility. They did the repair quickly, and I have no complaints.
