I just received my FZ50 (replacing an fz20), and I had ordered a Topram 4gb SD card for it. There website has postings that the card works in FZ30's, but nothing specific for the FZ50. I get a card read error every time I put it in the camera. It will not even let me bring up the format menu option. The card reads fine in my PC, and the FZ20 sees it fine as a 2gb card. Has anyone ever used this card in an fz50, or have any tips?

The FZ-50 is not capable of using a 4 gig card, 2 gig is the max. Only camera's that specify SDHC can use anything bigger than 2 gig. I am surprised that the FZ-20 could read it though.

Well that is not exactly correct the FZ50 can use SDHC cards over 2 gb,,,,but not the regular 4 gb cards. ( at least I think so).
You can try formatting it in the computer as Fat 16 and see if that helps but I doubt that it will......well since the FZ20 sees it it must be formatted FAT 16 try Fat 32.

are you accessing the Format trough the Playback menu?
cause on my FZ7 it won't show up anywhere else.

The FZ50 is suppose to take a 4gb SDHC according to the manual. I thought all 4gb SD card were by deffinition SDHC.

The FZ20 does see the card and can format it FAT16 and use it as a 2 gb card. Even with that format the fz50 does not like it. I cannot bring up any menu even in the playback mode. After formating the card in the fz20 I had to use a Panasonic SD formater program on my PC to get it back to a 4gb format. It is odd that Topram's web site has customer commets about this card working in fz30's.

No not all 4 gbSd cards are SDHC.......it must state on the card that it is SDHC.

On this page there are 2 SDHC cards and one that is not.

And I know nothing about that company I just used it as a reference.

I stand corrected, I guess I have not paid enough attention to the cards.

I did see them mention it on the Nikon forum and people already complaining that it is quite buggy ,

I just got a reply from TopRam. Even though I bought the 4gb SD card from a reseller, they are replacing it themselves with a SDHC 4gb card. It's nice to get surprised be a responsive company.
