I just got a 30d and a few lenses, flash etc, basically spent a lot of money (for me anyway) and I would be super bummed if someone stole my backpack or something crazy like that happened. I am also going to Oahu soon and read that that island has problems with thefts (no I will not purposely leave my equipment in my rental car but you never know what would happen) I don't want to be overly nervous but this camera purchase was the biggest thing I have done in some time. Just was curious if there was anyone that has gotten some sort of insurance coverage for their equipment.
Thanks

I listed my camera equipment with my homeowner's insurance. It wasn't terribly expensive to do so. You could almost certainly do the same with your renter's or homeowner's insurance. (This should also cover you while traveling, but double-check to make sure).

You can also get a personal article policy through your insurance carrier, which may carry a lower deductible than putting your camera and glass on your homeowner's policy.

If you have home owner's or renter's insurance, you probably already have some coverage in the event that someone steals your camera stuff. It will, of course, be subject to the deductible clause.
I presented an itemized list (with replacement values) to my insurance agent and asked about coverage and ask cost for coverage which would include my dropping and damaging my camera or an expensive lens.
As I write this, I do not recall the additional premium I pay but it is not substantial, on the order of one to one and a fraction percent of the aggregate replacement value per year.
I make sure that I update the list and give my insurance carrier a copy each time I make a purchase or sell a piece of covered equipment - including updating replacement values of stuff on the list if changes have occurred.
I don't list things that, although they have value, are durable such as tripods, heads, etc.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. All of this is great information. I will have to do some researching and calling to see what I have or need.
