I have been considering the nicon d80 or 200 or the canon
Rebel XTi 400D. I want a camera the would be good for
taking fast paced pictures of dog agility events. Would
anyone have any imput on this. I am pretty new at this
and don't know very much about digital cameras. My daughter
has a canon and takes very good pictures. She has took wonderful
pictures of her little girl and some of my dog events also.

Those are good cameras, but will take some practice and skill to make the most of. With that practice and skill, you should be able to take great shots of the dog events with any of them. But, you'll probably also want to invest in a good lens.

Since your daughter has a Canon, it's probably a good idea to look first at also getting a Canon. (I'm assuming since you're looking at dSLRs that she has a dSLR too.) That way, you can borrow accessories from each other when convenient.

PS: there's actually a specific "what camera should I buy" forum here for this kind of question.

thaks for the reply. I think I will go with the canonXTi and a good
lens. Canon seems to have a better range of lens then nicon. I think the
lens will be what it take for the low light inside and fast action.

What makes you think that?

Yes, the lens is the most important part, if you plan on low light indoor and action photography you want ATLEAST a lens with an aperture of 2.8. If your daughter owns a Canon DSLR, then go with Canon so you can use her lenses.

Nikon has wonderful low light lenses aswell, I dont agree with the statement Canon has a better line, but I am sure that can be debated for hours.

There are enormous ranges of lenses for either Canon or Nikon. That's an advantage of either of these brands over the others, but both of these big two have such a selection neither has a real advantage over the other.

I have a preference for Canon but Nikon and others manufacture very fine cameras and lenses as well. I have read pretty much nothing but good reviews about the Rebel XTi.

I have two Canon dSLRs: a 20D and a 5D. If a particular photographic endeavor does not require extreme wide angle, but rather some telephoto plus includes fast-paced action, I favor the 20D as the crop factor adds to the lens' reach and its continuous operation is substantially faster (5 fpm vs. 3 fpm).

Take a look at the Fuji F30, it's an amazing camera. ISO 100 to a usable 3200. It will get images where the eye can't.

They are available thru Amazon.com

I love the Fuji F series, but let's not oversell it. Like any digital camera, there's no comparison with the low-light ability of the human eye.

And, for the original poster's specific case, I don't think it has a long enough telephoto to really meet her needs.
