Talk about stuffing money into someone's wallet for effectively nothing, are you a PMA (Photo Marketing Association) member?

I was considering it ... but the ticket is kind of hefty. If it was being held in Chicago, it would be a no-brainer ... I'd pop for the $50 temp membership and go, but having to jet to Las Vegas (http://www.pmai.org/pma07/) for it and pop for a hotel, and miss school (which I really cannot) kind of makes it a tougher call.

I may just see what happens from here, this time. Use the capital I save for what goodies fall out from it. ;)

Thanks for asking, though.

there are some confusing numbers coming out of Japan. Canon's market share fell to 33.3 percent in July from 51.6 percent in the previous month. Nikon's dropped to 27.4 percent, from 32.6 percent. Sony are capitalizing on the revamp dSLR and have had like 20% ! But thats expected to level out to 10%.

What Im getting at is, many of these operators will have planned releases for PMA to combat market share stats and bolster their position.....well for their sake, I hope

There is coming, new stuff from Olympus, Panasonic, Leica, maybe Sigma. But no-one has heard whats going on with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax are busy with the Hoya merger

Samsung also jumped into the fray ... whatever your camera manufacturer's market share, if another manufacturer sells one camera, they chip away at that.

Samsung, SIGMA and SONY did not have a DSLRs until July 2006. The impact was nearly immediate and, of course, whatever that mareketshare was ... they stripped it from the existing manufacturers, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, and Fujifilm.

Minolta's market share was effectively zero, after February 2006, as hardly any cameras (5Ds & 7Ds) were sold.

This market is in flux and the first manufacturer to deliver a killer sensor with a decent-priced body ... will win the race .... for that round.

Canon and Nikon have some high-buck followings and that is a base that will not be easily eroded. The best the other camera manufacturers can do is enlist students and avid hobbiests in their climb to the stars. If they offer the goods ... the real stuff (great glass, accessories, compatibility, etc.) not mediocre crap, at substantially lower prices, anything can happen. Even a major shift in ... MARKET SHARE.

I couldn't agree more on this. I've got a great income compared to a lot & can afford the good glass, but to start a following as in a way of market share change, great idea.

No one on this forum is a PMA member? How interesting.

Vote away ... and lets show these guys that "non-participation" can be a good thing, too! :D
