When is the 40D coming out? I dont want to get the 30D and have the 40D come out a month later. Any info you have would be appreciated.
Thank you

We would like you to forward your interrogative to the Canon Customer Relations Group. They are always interested in these highly-intrusive types of corporate and sales requests.
Here's the link: Contact Canon (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ContactCanonAct)
Remember to tell them you do not want to buy the 30D, if they are going to release the 40D anytime soon. I'm sure that will assist them in determining how important their respective reply will be. I'm sure I speak for all of us, who anxious await a report of the response you receive.
Good luck, Pal :)

well, given that it seems impossible to get an official stand point from anyone including canon. would you think that the new G7 hand held would hold me off till then? seems like a pretty decent rig all things considered. or would you just get the 30D? bear in mind that i need something by the end of march for a trip. i originally planned on getting a body only rig then getting something that had a decent zoom and would use a point n shoot for close items or kids playing around. some honest feedback is always appreciated.
thank you

why don't you wait closer to your trip to get one?
then at least you get the latest that is available at that moment.

If Canon announces a 40D in March at PMA, it will very likely NOT be available for purchase before the end of the month.
The 30D is a great camera, and will still be a great camera in April. There are lots of rebates around right now, so you should get a good price. It would be a shame to not have a camera for your march trip....
Personally, I would be tempted to wait and see. But I have a camera that I am happy with, so thats an easy choice. When money is burning a hole in my pocket, I am not usually that patient!

I know when I went and got my SONY A100 ... I swear, it was still warm from the manufacturing lines (Could have been just a hot truck in the Summer sun - but who knows?-). I could hardly wait to try it out. When I went and pressed the shutter button for the first time ... I knew, right then ... the meaning of "virginity!"
May it be so for your EOS 40D experience ... whenever that happens.
CLICK! Ahhhhh ... Photography ... not always a pretty sight.

I don't have any hard numbers in front of me but I want to say that its at least another few (2-4) months after a camera is announced that it actually ships.

So you think a bunch of people on a forum are going to have an answer?

dont quote me out of context CDI. i only said that after i came to that realization that know one really knew. it was also adding up to a question the very next sentence. its not like i started my post saying that. go harass someone else if you have nothing constructive to add. i came to this forum for help and it seems that you have none to offer.

Oh, wouldn't it be fun ... to have the inside track on what the manufacturer's were planning and when? I'm sure Wall Street brokers would appreciate knowing well in advance when a particular "hot-item" was going to hit the marketplace.
Obviously, we simply want to get the most bang for our respective buck by buying and thinking that the items we obtain aren't obsolete as we walk out the retailer's door with them. Unfortunately, it all is a matter of timing. New products are usually well-underway by the time the earlier items (that you know about) hit the sales floor.
Take the big cinematic movies, for instance. Through personal experience they are USUALLY a full year "in the can", before they release it to the public. Kind of makes me laugh to see some actor pushing his film when he probably can't remember a single line from the movie that he spoke ... last year! "What is thy bidding, my master?" or "Say hello to my lil' friend!"
So ... "release dates" are boardroom controlled. We are all victimized by it and as painful as the delay is, it would appear that is exactly what we were born to do ... hurry up and wait. :(

I dunno about the 40D, but the current 1D Mark II N is under AUD750 rebate at the moment until 28 February.
Surely that's a sign that PMA has at least one new body coming.
