Any Nikon 35mm SLR will have manual modes and a light meter.

Probably the F75 (a.k.a. N75 in the U.S.A.). There are also the F50, F55, F60, and F65, but I believe the F75 was the last to be released. I have the F80 which I am very fond of but it's a step up, more similar to Canon's Elan 7 than to the Rebel series. In any case, you can probably pick up a used Nikon at a very good price.

So I guess you're not allowed to use your D50?

check out ebay for prices
theres a large selection of quality F series cameras from when Nikon was the undisputed SLR king
N2000, F301 etc are a dime a dozen ... well almost
F2, F3 bodies can be had for $500
