Here are a few since we're at halftime. I'm on my laptop so apologies if they're out of wack. Too lazy for captions this time.

Thanks CW. Back on my desktop at home now and they look all overly vibrant. My laptop is calibrated too but they're not as punchy.

Look OK from here in terms of colour (punch is good, no?). What PS settings?
Like the shots Don. The color actually looks good to me. First thing that jumped out when looked at pictures. Was it a big difference shooting the guys(I assume college) as opposed to gals?

I'm just surprised how far off my Dell is when both are supposedly calibrated. I'm still sorting out the girls shots (deleting the duds) but here are a few more from the guys.
Finally a successful jumpshot:

Nervous or bored?:

By the looks of things, I'd say bored:

Thanks forno. I have some camera shake in some though. Or maybe motion blur. I'm barely getting 1/500th so it could be blur.

Yeah at first I was using the 85 because I wanted to shoot at ISO1600. But the limited range sorta sucked so I said screwit, put the 30D on ISO3200 and got the 70-200 out. It focuses slower but somehow it's easier to lock on. Maybe the 85 is TOO fast and grabs other stuff (the wrong stuff) that jumps in and out of frame.
I walked around a bit with the Tokina on the 10D though for some "scenery" like this:

Nothing great about it...just gives a sense of place. I wish I had taken the time to go back up and get a pic when it was full of spectators.

That arena gives you beautiful space to take shots under the hoop. I wish my arenas were that deep, I am forced to use my 24-105 f4 under the net at ISO 1600. BTW, great shots Don, you're getting really good.
Does it seem that the guys are easier to shoot?

I dont mind a bit of blur as long as you have something sharp and in focus, like that last shot

Thanks. I agree it's pretty nice. It's still dark though. f/2.8 ISO3200 1/500th isn't exactly bright but it's a lot better than f/2 ISO3200 1/400th!
I think guys are a lot easier. They move faster and focus is a bit tougher BUT they give you more intense action to begin with, so almost anything framed well and in focus is a keeper. lol.
As a bit of an aside...this was my first time using my grey card for a custom white balance. Between that and using the Sekonic to meter the arena ahead of time, I didn't have to make any "adjustments" - just crop some, resize, border, watermark, sharpen.

Yeah. Some are blurred blurred though. Like the first one in the girls'. It looked fine on my 30D's LCD so I didn't chimp it away, and it looked fine on my laptop...but my laptop is 1920x1200 on a 15.4" screen...so everything is tiny, sharp, and noise free. lol.

Yep, nice separation between the subjects and the background. A good example of "DOF" control for the bench shot.
Something for me to strive for with future tennis shots.

The blur kinda complements things well here - easy to go too far but I think you nailed it (except for the first girl). How good is the 70-200? Must be the most versatile lens on earth.

Don't be too hard on yourself HG, short subject distance is working in Don's favour here - unlike your tennis shots where you were a lot further back.

Yeah these are great Don (better than the gals.) Are you showing the coach? Is there coverage in the campus/local newspaper? Someone's gotta want these photos. They really are top notch. :)

Good captures there Don, much better than my first attempt at doing indoor basketball. Your shots are coming out very well, and i like the little bit of grain and blur.

Thanks again guys. I agree these are better than the girls'. I did manage 70 keepers from each game though, and they're on my website now if y'all wanna have a look.
