These aren't too bad. Nice first out. Maybe up it to -1FEC instead of -3 though if you're only using it for fill. They look a bit dark. If you're bouncing though you can just slap it into M mode, choose the aperture and shutter you want, and in a small room the whole place will be lit up. I usually just set it n forget it in my house.
Just cruising around the house trying this technique out
C&C please:)

Welcome to the club :D . The 430EX is a nice flash that you'll enjoy (warning: and may also influence you to go for the 580EX later on ;) ).
The softer, less harsh shadows in photos with the bounce flash may be the only thing you need to justify the purchase.

A tad under on my screen (laptop though so take that with a grain of salt). Looks like the white and silver/shiny things fooled the flash metering. More FEC usually does the trick for stuff like that. The bouncing itself looks fine and dandy to me. :)
Re: the batteries. You might find those 1800mAh won't last too awful long (still better than Alkies though). They always bundle those with the chargers but you can get some 2650mAh and you'll be good to go for longer stretches.

Cheers mate, big learning curve on the use of that sucker.
The charger and batteries was $25 which is cheap here so I grabbed it just to get going, I will grab some 2500/2650's when I see em on special some place and then just have the 1800 as spares.
Don be ready for me to ask heaps of questions:D
You and ceedub are going to be sick of me:o
If you aint already

It pretty much operates under the same premise of regular non-flash metering as far as exposure goes - ie the meter's "goal" is a neutral scene. If you have a bright scene, add +FEC. If you have a dark scene, -FEC.

I know this is a trifle off topic, but as a matter of course, does Australia use European power (50-cycle), US-type (60-cycle), or perhaps even Australian (unicycle) power? I'm not expecting the latter two, but you never know.
It would explain a lot of things. :p

415V AC 3-phase is commonly supplied to the building (handy for AC, pool filters, industrial), however 240V AC single-phase is the domestic GPO. Frequency is 50Hz.
