you know those "venting posts" that pop up here every once in a while? i think i need to do just that right now. went shooting today and noticed a lamp that was left on in a darkened room in an empty window. it was on the second floor, the lamp was pointed outwards, the window had an interesting texture, and it looked like an abstact that i normally shoot. so i have my tripod and i'm taking a long exposure when this woman walks by with her dog (she was actually attractive). she looks at me, then stares at the window/lamp i'm shooting for a good three seconds, looks at me again, then back at the window as she passes. then she passes again, and asks what i'm shooting. "that lamp." she says, well i hope they know you're shooting them, and i'm thinking "what the F*CK?! who's they? can't you tell after staring at that damn window for so long that it's just a lamp in a dark space?" i responded with "it's a lamp" and she just kept walking. i mean damn, i was accussed of doing something inappropriate even though she clearly could see for herself that there wasn't anything more than a lamp, a window, and a completely black room behind it. freakin' dumb@ass! ah, i feel better :D . anybody got photography related stories of run-ins with the less intelligent public to share?

Yes. I was at Wal-Mart a couple weeks ago walking around the store snapping off random shots to test my father's Topcon Uni. I didn't feel like going home only to run back and have it developed. I saw a girl stocking shelves and I asked her if I could take her picture. She asked why. I said because I'm testing this camera and have no idea if it even works. She said no sorry we're not allowed to have our photos taken.
My immediate thought was "ok why did you bother asking me why in the first place, if you're not allowed per store policy? Just say you aren't allowed from the get-go."
I went back to the photo department and snapped pics of them working and they didn't say a thing.
What I can say...I got bored with snapping photos of dog food after awhile.

Maybe she thought you really could care less about the photo and just wanted to start a conversation with her. Maybe she thought you were trying to pick her up. ;)

LMAO.....I didn't say you WERE trying to pick her up, maybe just that she THOUGHT you were trying.......LOL
Anyways, I know what you mean about the useless questions and ignorant people. I was at a local attraction here in Taiwan. I set up my tripod and was ready to shoot the waterfall when a Taiwanese family decided to stop right in front of my camera, lay down their bags and have a picnic. I asked them as politely as I could in Chinese to move over, which they did with many apologies. This did not stop their children, however from running in and out of view of my shot, almost knocking over my tripod a few times. I never did get the picture. I packed up and walked away, although I did get a few apologies from some other families who saw what had happened.

Well if she was cuter, and those were in fact her assumptions, she would have been correct! :D

Yeah I don't shoot much "out there" for recreational purposes. I don't like people getting in my way and would rather be commissioned to shoot...then I have the right to say "Get the !@&* out of my way. Please. Thank you." :D
