...for the F40fd?

Actually I really like the V10 and would like a face detection version of it. I'm coming back from Canon (SD400) to Fuji again, because to me the pictures look better...even with my old FinePix 2800.

So I'm inclined to the F series because they have all the new features Fuji is coming out with, and are similar in size to the Canon SD series.

Thanks

I don't see what's so great about "face detection". And most folks won't notice the difference between 6 MP and 8 MP.

Why not just look for a good deal on the F20 instead? Heck, if the F40fd is that important to you, get a good deal on the F20 now and resell it to finance the F40fd when they're really available.

The F40fd is actually an update to the F20, not the F31fd. The F40fd lacks the manual controls of the F31fd and the battery life isn't as good (it does take SD cards, though, so if you have those already, it's a plus). It does have an 8-megapixel sensor, but really the jump from 6 to 8 isn't that big of a deal. 6 is plenty for most people unless you plan on cropping heavily and printing that crop to a very large size.

If you know how to focus your camera properly (half-press shutter button, re-frame, press shutter button all the way), face detection really isn't necessary if you're doing most of the picture-taking. Although I suppose it would come in handy if you give the camera to someone else to take a picture of you. You never know if the other person knows how to use a camera properly (in my experience, they usually don't).

Also, the only real advantage that the V10 has over the F20/30/31fd/40fd is its slightly smaller size. The F-series cameras are still very compact, and more capable in just about every way.
