Usually, a page-by-page reading of the owner's manual, with the camera at your side, ready to try each step along the way, helps too. Be patient, as I recall it's a pretty good camera, just may take a little time to "break it in."

I regularly use a Kodak C-875 camera, and I think it is really a great camera. If there is any way in which I can help with your Kodak C-875 camera, please let me know.

Hi ~ I also am one that needs help with this camera. I just got mine yesterday so I haven't really done much with it. A couple of questions...
1) Specifically, I would like to know if there is an actual macro setting. I would like to take close-ups of jewelry, as well as other things, but am getting frustrated. I have read Jeff Keller's review saying in macro mode you can get as close to your subject as 10 cm at wide-angle and 70 cm at telephoto. (How?) I have also read the on-line manual (grrrr) and have found nothing. Last night I called Kodak customer service. From what I could understand (I only speak English), I need to be at least 3' away from the subject I'm photographing and have the setting at "close up of flower". She also said it would be better to use a tripod, which I have. I tried the suggestions and it did work, but it is still frustrating to be 3' away from the subject, especially if I have to reposition something. I didn't know digital cameras worked like that, or maybe I'm missing something, but this is not what I expected from this Kodak camera. I used my daughter's C743 (I think!) and I could just zoom in on something and it took a great picture. I thought, since I bought an Easy Share, it would work pretty much the same :( I will try to work with it more this weekend but if I can't figure it out, it will have to go back.
2) Is there any way to just download the photos directly to the computer instead of going through Easy Share software? I just want to be able to download the pics directly to my computer, not an album, etc.
3) A comment. I REALLY would've liked a manual with the camera. I know I can print umpteen pages but carrying them with me everywhere would be a pain. If I'm out somewhere taking pictures and have a question, I don't really want to have to take along a bunch of 8 1/2 x 11 pages, let alone page through them all!
If anyone can help me, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! If I can figure out how to use the macro without being 3' away, I might keep the camera.
Thanks much and please help if you can!!

Hello Wanderer!

I don't have a C875 but this is what I understand from the online manual:

1) to use the macro setting you need to rotate the mode dial on top of the camera to the SCN position, and then use the joystick to select the Close-up mode on the LCD. The specification states that in this mode you can get as close as 10 cm to your subject with no zoom. As you zoom in, the distance between the camera and the subject must be increased gradually until you get to the max optical zoom where the minimum distance is 70 cm (there is also a maximum distance when in macro mode - when you're closer than the minimum or farther than the maximum the camera will not be able to autofocus on the subject).
Try this mode and see if you're getting as close to your subjects as you want with this camera - you can also crop the resulting image on the computer.

2) many people use a card reader to download their pictures to the computer. USB card readers are not that expensive nowadays and are easy to use - you just take the SD card from the camera and put it in the card reader and your computer will see it as a drive. All the card readers should take SD cards by know...

Good luck,
Ken

Ken ~

I'm sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. Thank you SO much for taking the time to reply to my post. Your instructions/info worked and I've kept the camera. I still expected more of it and I would've returned it, but of course there is a 30% restocking fee  Next time, it's Walmart, lol! It's tolerable for the time being, so I'm ok with it.

The only good thing about all of this is that I received a free 1 GB SD card :D It inserts directly into my computer, so I can get the pictures that way without going through the EasyShare software (NOT my favorite). This new computer has drives that I have NO CLUE what they do :o

THANKS AGAIN, and I hope I can "call on you" for help in the future, if I need it

W....

ps-Love your photos, please post more :)

Wanderer,

I'm really glad I could help. I'll be around and hopefully able to answer your questions :)

As they say, there is no perfect camera - but for each of us there are some features that are really important. Try to see if you can work around the negatives - if not, you'll know what to look for when you buy the next one...

ps-Love your photos, please post more :)
Thank you very much - I'll try to post one evey day :D
If you have the time, you're more than welcome to post some of yours in the same thread!

Hello,

Is it true that only Kodah battery works in this kodah c875? Or can I use any rechargeable nimh AA batteries? Would appreciate any user of this camera advise me on this issue before I purchase it.

Hello spmgj!

I hope a C875 owner will answer your question soon.

I don't have one, but from the C875's online manual I understand that you can use non-Kodak NiMh rechargeables, but only the Kodak ones can be charged in the camera (for example if you buy a dock and put the camera in it, the dock can charge the bateries in the camera only if they are Kodak rechargeables). So as long as you have a separate charger, there should be no problem....

A C875 owner should be able to cofirm this.

Here's the link to the relevant page of the C875 Manual (http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/publications/urg00594toc.jhtml?chapsec=urg00594c1s3&pq-path=9349).
