When I was doing research before purchasing a Canon SD300, someone pointed out that a normal Sandisk 512MB (but not an older 64MB) SD card could keep up with the transfer rate from the buffer during a 640x480/30fps movie rate. I decided to chance it and bought a Sandisk 1GB card (not Ultra II). Just ran the camera for the full 8min 31sec that such a card can hold at that high film rate and it filled the card. So, no need to spring for the extra bucks for the Ultra II card. Just thought others would like to know....

Cool. My PNY 512MB runs the 60 frame/sec video pretty well, but stops at about 10 seconds on the 30 frame/sec 640x480. Also, my 1GB high speed card is ready faster after I finish any video. I understand that for the non high-speed cards, sometimes the same brand has faster ones, sometimes a little slower.

GAH!! i wish I saw this thread before I sprang for the ultra II 1gb card. I too did the same research about sd card speed for the sd200/300. The "regular" sandisk 1gb is about $65 us now and I got the ultra II for $95 us, so it wasn't a complete waste. Hopefully it'll transfer faster in my usb 2.0 card reader.
so glad canon finally got a decent movie mode together.

That is good news to hear... How are you guys liking the movie modes on your SD300's? I currently have an S230 and it usually picks up alot of bass so that the audio comes out distorted, and was hoping that with an upgrade to the SD300 that might go away

SD300 sound recording sucks, see here http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4230
The only Canon IXUS/Digital Elph which has good sound recording is the S500.

I personaly like the movie mode... that is why I bought it in the first place. To be honest picture quality and sound is great. I havn't experienced any problems with the sound the way I've been using it but... its good stuff..
I'm able to make VCDs and DVDs with it without having the voice be out of sync with the image.
After reading about the Powershot SD500 DE I'm thinking damn I want to get that or the SD400... :-p
They have digital zoom :p
