SYD AU: place to buy lens & filter etc.

not sure if i have the right place post... (feel free to move this)

anyhow...
for the people in Aust.
is there a place in Syd that i should look at to buy Lens and Filters and other accessories... what im looking at is good service, and shop keeper who konws that stuff and not afriad to give advise....

however, im off to holiday in a few weeks and going to have a over night stop at Tokyo...
is it worth waiting to buy them there or duty free in Syd is just as good...

Was faced with this same dilemna before I went to Hong Kong.

Keep in mind there is no "duty" anymore as it has been replaced by the GST. Therefore, the saving is only 10% and (despite what the Salesman will tell you), once you exceed $900 "GST-Free" value, you are up for the full GST component :( .

I'm not sure how Japan prices compare, so Aus prices may still be good when you consider that waranty issues are more easily followed up if purchased here :confused: .

Unfortunately, I have not found any good camera stores in Sydney for this purpose (but that is not to say they don't exist). I find it best to research on the net (eg. this forum and other review sites), and then purchase accordingly.

for accessories i would consider the digital camera warehouse in canterbury sydney. lens are a different story.

my boss bought a PSP for me when they were over in Japan in 2005. it ended up costing around AUD$250 where they were selling locally for around AUD$400
hence im thinking that lens could be similar... might check it out with a friend living there first... will post what my findings are...

warranty issues... i havent really worried about this before, since i havent bought anything that is worth the troubles associated with warranty... a $1000 lens might be a differnet story...

seen the digital camera warehouse web site, but havent dealt with them yet...
