My Energizer (2500/long recharge type) batteries go dead in as little as a week when I'm not using the camera. When taking pictures they last forever. I have a Canon A610. Is there a problem with either the batteries, camera or combination? Thanks.

get eneloops if u plan on storing the camera for a week before shoot.. they not as high capacity but u can leave them on the shelf for a year and only lose 10% charge...

anyway ur energizers (if brand new) should last much longer than week before draining.. im usually able to shoot a few hundred even after my energizers sit for 2 weeks straight

My energizers do that also, i thought one of them was bad or flakey though. I have one with some rust around it. The duracells dont do this though and i have about 5 sets of those. I just have one set of energizers and they go flat after a few days. Glad its not just me

What charger are you using? The Energizer charger tends to make this problem worse. A goos Maha charger like the C204W helps since it does a "top off charge" and also can refresh if needed.

Like Bower said, the Duracell brand does not seem to be as bad, and the PowerEx is better too...

My charger is the duracell 1 hour charger. Its white and has 4 LEDs above each cell. It only charges AA and AAA its kinda small and flat about the same size as a canon SD camera.

They are my brothers and he uses the charger that came with the batteries. He brought ove his A70 for me to send back to canon and while it was being repaired i tried his batteries and i noticed they dont seem to perform like my duracell.

I posted a post a while back when i got a new set of duracell 2650. I charged them the first charge and i put a date on them of the day i bought them. I put them in my S3 wich was also new so i wanted this set to be just for the S3 only. When they ran out i made the post it took just over 500 shots and was right at a month when they were ready for their second charge. They claim they get better after the first few charges though but i havnt been paying attention to them since.

Another thing i wonder is his charger is an over night charger, mine is a 1 hour charger. Maybe this has somthing to do with how they perform? maybe they are use to being charged over night?

I originally bought Sony batteries and a Sony charger. I couldn't get the batteries to store more than about 2 days, they lasted forever when I was using the camera, but they didn't store. I switched to Energizer and they have stored over 2 months and still have enough juice to power my flash or my S2.
I think most of the problem was with my charger. The Sony charger was a 15 minute charger, and I found it wouldn't charge the Energizer or Duracell batteries I purchased later. I ordered a Maha charger and it charges all of the batteries(except for the Sonys)and they all have a charge after a prolonged period of non use. Maha chargers and Powerex batteries are very highly regarded, and I tend to agree now.
