Do you ever tell people on e-bay who are selling their cameras as-is because they have the canon defect? Ive done it with a few people with A70s and a few with A300s

Most put in the auctions that they have distorted images and some have blank screens. They sell for about $30. usualy, the person who wins it may or may not know canonis fixing them free but dang $30. for a good camera like these

I haven't been buying cameras off of eBay but this is a bit of a moral quandary. On one hand, I'd want to be totally with people so I'd want to tell them. On the other hand, it is up to both the buyer and the seller to know what what they are buying and selling to know the value of the article being sold (i.e. it is the seller's fault for not checking Canon's notices). We've all heard stories of people buying something at a garage sale and then finding something of extreme value in it (lost paintings, historical documents, etc).

That aside, the particular defect that BowerR64 is referring to affects a wide variety of Canon products. This includes:
- Camcorders: ZR60, ZR65 MC, ZR70 MC, ZR80, ZR85, ZR90, ELURA 40 MC, ELURA 50
- Digital Cameras A60, A70, A75, A300, A310, S230, SD100, SD110, A40(*), A80(*), A85(*), A95(*), S1 IS(*), S60(*), S200(*), S330(*), S400(*), S410(*), S500(*)

More details are at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8774

... and what do you know, this looks like it covers exactly what my old A60 is going through. I guess I'll send it it and then use it as my "potentially disposable" digital camera for things like kayaking in salt water or underwater shots (in a waterproof bag of course).

Well, Ive been looking on e-bay at all the broken cameras, you can get a good idea wich cameras to stay away from when you see alot of them broken on e-bay. I bid on a few of the older canons an A300 and an A310 won em both. When i got the A300 it had the no image but everything else still functions fine, plays back images taken on another camera fine. I then started to think, humm its 3.2mp like the A70. When i went to the canon site to check it out i noticed there was a new button on the main page with the Canon PowerShot Digital Camera Product Advisories when i clicked it there were other links and one had the list of the cameras with the CCD problem. I remember seeing a few before when my brothers A70 and my A70 had this. I didnt realize then the A300 and A310 was one in the list. I sent canon an e-mail and they sent me a shipping label and stuff so im gona send it see if they can fix it.

I then went back and told all the others selling their A300 and A310 about it and some thanked me some said "cool buy it and get it fixed"
