Hi guys. I'm looking to purchase my first digital camera. I need some advise on what models I should be considering.

I really don't have an immediate need to produce large prints. I do like the 180 degree rotating LCD screen. So I've been eyeing the Canon PS A630 @ around $247 - $280; 8mp is plenty. I'm looking for a small pocket size camera.

Are there any other cameras in the same price range that have rotating lcd's, and have similar or better photo quality than the Canon PS A630?

Also, is it worth buying a 4year protection plan; it's like half the price of the camera but covers all damage & accidents. Thanks.

Hi:

I have the A620 which was replaced by the A630/640. The rotating LCD is great, and the A630 is highly rated. I'm sure you've already read the A630 review on the DCRP page, reviews of the other suggested cameras at the bottom of that page, and the DCRP buyer's guide.

If so, we can only offer minimal help in your decision. If not, then that's where you will find the answer :-)

Ugh, I wouldn't buy a protection plan that is so expensive, especially if it is a "Mack" plan. They have a horrible rep.

Have you handled the A630? It's a great camera, but hardly "pocket-sized", unless you are referring to a coat pocket.
