Tamron 28-300 for Pentax K100d

I am awaiting shipment of a K100d and Tamron 28-300mm AF F/3.5-6.3 LD ASP IF for Pentax. I have never owned a dslr ... had a 35 mm fully manual camera about 25 years ago, but that's the extent of my experience. I am WAY concerned now about the lens, since this is the only site I can even find such a thing on (buydig.com). I don't even know what all those letters at the end of it mean, since I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know if I can just put this on the camera & be set to go or do I have to buy an adapter or something. Also, is this like some outdated, barely usable, highly detestable lens? :) I'd like to be able to shoot some photos Christmas day so need to make sure I have a usable system. Thanks.

Bless you for the info, but it is an LD ASP IF - not an XR Di. I didn't spend anywhere near this much for the lens and am unable to find out anything about it on the manufacturer's site. That's why I was wondering what's going to happen when I get it. Suppose I could just wait and see, but I thought someone might know. Thanks tons - I'm sure I'll be back on here bugging you all endlessly once I get the camera. :D

This is what all the jargon means..XR (extra Refractive Index) glass is effective in reducing the optical length of the lens through high refractivity. LD (Low Dispersion) and AD (Anomalous Dispersion) glass minimize loss of sharpness caused by color blurring at the tele end of the focal range, while ensuring vivid, quality imaging. The ASP lens technology compensates for spherical aberration to achieve outstanding image quality.

It is a older design..it was before the XR generation of Tamron lenes which made them even smaller and lighter. You ordered the Pentax mount so it will work fine on the K100..
