Budget

* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible.
- really doesn't matter but i don't want to overpay for not a whole lot more

Size

* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
- compact

Features

How many megapixels will suffice for you?
- 6 to 7mp

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)
- standard

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
- 8

Do you care for manual controls?
- would be nice to learn but not necessary

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for?
- snap shooting and movie taking

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
- probably not

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
- yes definately

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
- yes, not often though

Miscellaneous

Are there particular brands you like or hate?
- no

Are there particular models you already have in mind?
- Canon SD700IS, SD800IS

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
- Wide Angle would be nice
- Image Stabilization required
- Needs to be able to shoot 60fps movies for fast action video. I work a second job as a golf instructor and need the camera to take movies @ 60fps to see all the frames during the swing accurately.

Thanks

Take a look at the Fuji F30/F31fd and the Sony SD800 in the ultracompact class. If you're willing to go up a one class in size the Canon A710,700,620 & 610 are all very well regarded.

Thanks for the suggestions, i was looking at the Fuji as well but i didn't think i read that their camera was able to take 60fps movies.

I'll check again.

Thanks

Edit:

The Fuji does not record at 60fps.

Sorry, I didn't catch that requirement.

So far I only see Canon's that offer a 60fps at their 320x240 mode. While I'm not positive I think everthing in the SD line since the 400 and in the 3 digit 'A' line for a while now. Certainly the A710 has this mode. Don't know how much detail you'll get to analyze a swing with though.

60fps is all i need to accurately see the frams that count: around impact. Anything less than 60 and it's a crap shoot.

It really doesn't matter how "big" the movie is, i just need the frames to be visible.

I think a Canon is in my future.

Well i picked up the F30 for my girlfriend for our anniversary and i think i'm leaning towards the 800IS for me.

The F30 will be great for indoor photos and low light situations and do pretty good outside.

The 800IS will be great for outdoor photos in better light and provide some better colors and allow me to take the vids i need at 60fps.

WIN WIN :D
