I'm down to two choices. The Nkon Coolpix 4200 and the Kodak DX7440. I like both, but am leaning towards the Nikon. At the store, I had a bit of trouble with the auto focus on the Kodak. Does anyone out have one of these cameras and is perhaps having the same problems focusing on things with auto focus?

Also, does anyone know much about either cameras? I don't know which one to buy.

The DX7630 is very similar to the DX7440 but has two million more pixels, a stronger flash, and better autofocus. Try it out and see what happens. You'll have to pay $50 more for it, though. But I really don't recommend the DX7440 because of its weak flash and occassionaly bad autofocus (though Kodak claims these should be the same on both cameras).

I've never read any reviews on the Nikon, so I can't answer that part of your question. ;)

I have never used the Nikon, but I bought a kodak DX7440 for my father. I have seen quite some photos done with it - look very good (much better than with DX6490). Flash is not very strog (I have C-5060 a that's a difference), but for indoor sdhooting - for family or so, it seems to be enough. What I like in it is hybrid AF - really helps in low light , but nikon finaly also realised this and slowly start to use AF illuminators. Also the focusing is fast - much faster then my C-5060 (makes my angry). Yes, DX7630 has more pixels (do you need them?), but has only 3x optical zoom. the nice thing on DX7440 are the lens with a zoom range 33 - 132 mm. And I like the colors that Kodak produces - very pleasing and vivid.
Concerning the focusing - I think I have seen a few of those unsharp, but very few (~1% or so). But it was mostly for close up photos (~50cm).
One more time - I have never used 4200 so I can say nothing about it, but I consider 7440 as a good one.

I hope I've helped you.
