I am just starting to get into photography. I was thinking of getting a camera for sports. I bmx and i would like to take good pictures for that. But i would also like to take landscape pictures and close up pictures. My limit is 300. I saw this camera and a friend of my thats been in photography for a while said it was good

is it worth getting
You might want to consider other superzoom cameras such as : Kodak Z612, Canon S2IS, Panasonic Lumix FZ7, or Sony H2.. All at the same price ranger as Olympus SP-510UZ, and all have at least 10X optical zoom and have optical image stabilizer feature.
Why it is so important? When you do 10X zooming, usually it is quite difficult to get a blur free image, but with this feature it is easier.
And all the cameras i have mentioned above have this feature except that Olympus SP-510UZ..

It sounds good to have ISO available up to 4000, but as yet, apparently no reviews or even user experience are out there to corroborate this claim. For about the same or lower price, you could consider a Panasonic DMC-TZ1, which has a 10X stabilized zoom. Its wideangle is wider than the Oly's, but its longest zoom reach is also a little shorter, at 350 vs. 380. I think it's quite a bit smaller than the Oly. A lot of folks are having a whole bunch of fun with this camera. If you want to see some samples of TZ1 photography that I've taken, here are a couple of galleries for you to peruse:

Good luck, whatever you choose.
