Delft

Hey everyone,

It's been a while since I last posted any pictures here, which is basically because I didn't take any :( . Exams and projects at university and my job have taken up all my free time in the past weeks. Also, in the little free time I had the weather was so bad I did not want to go outside to take pictures.

This week I finaly had some time to take pictures (well, actually I created some free time by skipping a couple of classes :o ). I went to the historic city center of Delft, the city where my university is based.

Underneath you can see some of the pictures I took. The first I took with the 17-70, the others I took with the 10-20. Underneath you can see some of the pictures I took that day. As always, comments and criticism are more than welcome.

Nice shots, looks like a wonderful place to visit! But they would be even nicer with nice blue sky in the background!

But I know how the weather just won't cooperate sometimes. I went to conference at Oxford recently for only five days, and had only one day of clear weather!

I like #3 the best, although it looks like the middle structure is tilting just a tiny bit to the right. I had to really look though to notice so maybe I am picking. Eventhough it wasnt the ideal weather for picture taking, you captured the feel of the weather very well. The wet ground and the dark, cloudy sky add a certain feel to it. I like it!

Very good photos. And for what Jcon was saying about #3, you can barely even notice it, and you can fix that in Photoshop with the measuring tool to make the horizon level.

I wanna visit here someday!

I too liked #3 the best. Part of the reason I liked it WAS because of the sky. I get so bored sometimes of the persistant blue skies in pictures I just love stormy skies.

I really like the perspective in the picture.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. The skies were indeed not all that great, but during the past few weeks, there were only a couple of days with skies that were any better, so I just tried to make the best of it.

Delft is a very nice place to visit, with many great landmarks. There are quite some more, so next time I take my camera to Delft, I will try to get some pictures of those.

Jason, you're right, that tower is indeed a bit tilted. I hadn't noticed it yet, perhaps because all the other lines on the floor of the square are tilted in exactly the other way. Speaking of tilted pictures (or towers?), here's another of the old church in Delft:

absolutely gorgeous photos!! Just breathtaking scenery and magnificent buildings! I really would like to see them in black and white. I find black and white give such a good mood to photos like these... where as the colours sometimes can detract. what do you think?

Thanks, Patticakes. As a matter of fact of making some of them black and white, but in the end I just liked the coloured versions better. While pictures in black and white will do a better job in expressing a certain mood, I feel that keeping the colours will add a certain positive feel to a mood that would otherwise be very grim.

I like the colored version of #3 better than the b&w photo, but again all the images are very good.
