I am looking for the smallest possible camera I can find with the bigest zoom. I also need the optical viewfinder (unless the LCD is big enough and sharp enough to be seen in bright sunlight). I already own an Olympus C-770, so this camera is for traveling and convenience. I am looking to spend under $300. Thanks in advance for your help

You will have a hard time finding the smallest camera with the biggest zoom. and for $300. You can get the Canon A710 (6X zoom, stabilization) for right around $300.

However, you should check out the buyer's guide right here at the DCRP.

Take a look at the Panasonic TZ-1...The only thing missing from your wish list is the opticial viewfinder but the TZ-1 has a feature called "Power LCD" which is very useful in bright light conditions

I recommend the Canon SD700IS. It has 4x optical Zoom, 6mp, is very small and has Image stabilzation as well as great quality photos. Very well built and feels good in your hand (has some good weight to it) 7.8 on cnet reviews. It is all auto, so if manual controls is what you want then go for the A710IS. This camera is getting harder to find due to the SD800IS that came out, but it is definatley better than the 800 in my opinion.

If you have to have more zoom, Then I would go for the A710IS which is 6x optical with manual controls, although the lcd screen is not that bright compared to the sd700IS and it is bigger in size then the SD700IS. Staples has it online and they will match any competitor coupon.

Ok, I've narrowed my camera choice down to the Canon SD700is and the Sony DSC-W50. For the money, which will give me the better pictures as well as ease of use? Thanks again for your help!

I got mine at costco.com for 309.00 two weeks ago, but i do not see it on there anymore. go to cnet and bring up the sd700is review and then click on the prices to see who has it the cheapest, but only buy from a trusted site.

I prefer the sd700is. It is great!
