Hello,

I'm new around here, this Christmas I would like to buy my new first DSLR and I've come across these two. For the Canon I can only have the Sigma 18-125 lens, because of its price, while the Nikon has its own 18-135. The price difference is not too big because of Canon's 100£ rebate.
I would go Canon but I cannot afford a better lens for the moment...
Please let me know what you think!

I have the D80 with the 18-135mm lens and am very happy with it. I was in the same boat as you and was originally leaning toward the Canon 30D but I am very happy with my decision to get the Nikon D80. It is a fantastic camera with a great viewfinder (far superior to Canon) and one of the best kit lenses available. Historically Canon has slightly less noise at 100% in their camera line but I can tell you first hand that noise is not a problem.

This gallery was taken exclusively with the 18-135mm lens:

Good Luck.

Hands down the D80, if it were me. I do not like the feel for Canon's cameras, and most of their lenses are expensive, as for Nikon you can get a couple decent lenses that are inexpensive for beginners.

Hi Nitro003:

It is best to post in only one thread. In your case, "the what camera to buy" was probably the most appropriate, and I replied there - I think :-)

You will no doubt be happy with either choice, but it idss personal preference. Third parties make a lot of lenses for those cameras so I would not necessarily worry about the expensive Canon or Nikon brand name lenses.

Thanks everyone,

Cincyimages, I liked your pictures a lot, thank you for sharing!
SpecialK, sorry if I caused any trouble:), I was just trying to get as many answers to my thread as possible!
I think I'll go down to the store, check 'em both out and then I'll make up my mind!

Hi Nitro:

No trouble. Just some informal guidelines:-)

I'm sure you'll be happy with any DLSR you get.

Both cameras are superb and you won't go wrong picking one or the other, they have some advantage over the other but they maintain a pretty balanced relationship in term of the "vs"....

If you climb mountains, do a lot of trecking or you are somewhat a dude with slippery hands then a magnesium alloy body will be best, but if you arent then the D80 is a great camera.

some may disagree i wouldnt compare the two. i would take the eos 30d anyday over the d80 but the d200 is a whole different story. Like someone said anyway you put it nikon and canon make awesome cameras so theres no way youll be dissapointed no matter what you do.
