Can anyone recommend a specific teleconverter that is effective on the S3. I know Canon makes one and I've heard Raynox may be better. I'd be inclined to stick with Canon unless I hear something good about Raynox.

Question: Doe's a 1.5 teleconverter on the S3 mean that I would have approximately 18X max zoom? I will be using this rig in Yellowstone Park filming the wildlife.

I am not interested in Sony.

Thanks, folks!

I highly recommend Canon's teleconverter lens. I looked at samples from Raynox, Canon, and one or two others long and hard before I went with Canon's. Raynox gives you a fraction more zoom, but in my opinion the Canon wins in terms of sharpness and image quality.

And yes, 18X approximately.

That's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for,....thanks! Did you use the Canon adapter kit, rings or whatever they're called. Some have knocked these because they are plastic but I can't believe they don't get the job done. Thanks again!

Yes, I used the adapter that came with the teleconverter. It's plastic, but it has held up under literally thousands of outdoor shots and hasn't been any problem. Plenty sturdy IMO.

In regards to the Canon teleconverter (if that's the one you settle on), I think you might even see some "punch" with it in terms of image quality that you didn't before you got it. For some reason unknown to me it seems to make image quality better in my opinion and some others who use it.

Good luck, and I hope you'll post some of your pictures from your trip after you get them. :)
