I am buying a digital for my 14-year-old as her holiday gift. She's responsible and careful and upon reflection I think that the small size is probably what's most important to a young girl who will take it on school trips and to camp and to record friends. It's probably a slightly better camera than I had planned because I need to use if for several things, as well, mainly macro. If I were buyng for myself, I'd likely buy the Canon A630 or 710.

I make jewelry and must record it visually and my older clunky Nikon Coolpix 5700 is not doing as good a job as it once did. I tried many of the ultras in three photo stores and the SD600 did the best job besides a Sony, better than the Canon SD630 -- the white balance was better, even under yellowy fluorescent lights. Do any of you have experience with the SD600, outside of its macro function, and can you tell me what you think?

This has been a tremendously helpful forum as I educate myself about these newer cameras and photography.

Thank you,

Jan

Hi Jan, I'm in about the same boat as you are. I have to purchase two of these cameras. One for my Son 30 and one for my daughter 26. Doing it twice is expensive, so I'd love to understand more also. The SD600 was pretty much the camera I decided on, then I had to see the SD700 with image stabilization. LOL, now I'm starting to think, am I throwing all my money away on blurry shots with the 600 and I should have spent the extra on IS.

Its so hard, I don't know what the real life benefit of IS is, so many good reviews on the 600 you would think if the shots were too tough to get without blur, no one would like the thing. <sigh> Hope we get some replies.
