The second and the fourth seems to have very high ISO settings, or that grainy textrue came from heavy JPG compression?

O just grain plugin I use sometimes...it's not really degrading the picture. They were all shot at ISO 100.

Lol, sorry for my bad expression :) . That was one of the few mosquito fogging planes, that flew over the town area that day. We have mosquitos here in summer, and this type of planes are used. The picture itself is interesting because it captures a plane that is flying so low...

Hello everyone,
Been a while but I've managed to tear myself away from RL long enough to get some shots at the Winter Carnival. These are from the ice carving contest and they are quite well done but the best show is the actual carving itself, which unfortunately I did not get to in time.
Anyway, enjoy the sculptures.

ya what I really needed was to be about 2 hours later so that the sun was completely down. Then I would be dealing w/ backlit sculptures instead of trying to get a nice reflection from the sun but I was on a schedule and was lucky to get the shots when I did since I don't get down that way very often.

nope Believe it or not it was the wind kicking up the snow! I had the camera fairly zoomed out. from the combo of the wind and my son trying to get into the tree it made it look like it was snowing again but with the sun out!

Thanks so much :)
I truly wonder how much longer people are going to hang on to this camera with all the new technology out. My one and only choice for replacement would be the Panasonic G1. The downsides have pretty much been remedied by now: Auto WB has been improved since launch, new lenses have been announced, and no video (who cares). It's about the most perfect camera I can think of!

I wonder about that too....I already know my next camera will be a DSLR. I really like this camera but it has its limits on what I want to take photos of. Indoor springboard diving and swimming. Out side it is fine. Would like a zoom lens too...so the only option for me is DSLR....I plan to get the Nikon D90.

I'll probably be hanging on to my Fuji a little longer. Many a time have I been tempted to switch to the DSLR world, but really you know I've got to say I'm happy with this camera. It doesn't take the cleanest images at high ISOs (given the competition now), but the versatility of its lens is a good compromise. AA batteries are so handy and having RAW is a scream. My only lament is that its a little heavy. I've learned to deal with that.
My future DSLR can wait...

----
Yes Paul, it does have long strong legs. And Fuji is having a hard time replacing S6000/S6500fd like they can't come up with a replacement for F31.
There is Dpreview's review on F200EXR with image samples and the comment "Fujifilm promised the F200 EXR would improve on that performance, but doesn't appear to have quite delivered the goods."
They will follow up with a long zoom based on F200EXR formula. However if the F200 sample image is any indication, don't expect the S6000's replacement to have better image quality just yet; so hang on to your S6000 a couple of years more.

And last but not least, the joust shot. These 2 females were getting kind of feisty trying to claim dominance over the feeder. In the end they chased each other around for a bit and ended up eating together once they ran out of gas so to speak. :D

They get used to you after a while. They're spooked pretty easily for a week or so but once they get used to you they will not only come up to feed while you're there but will interact with you as well.
It's not uncommon for the birds to be hovering right next to your head or landing on the feeder before you even get it out of your hands when hanging a fresh bottle. Pretty cool little birds actually and I count myself lucky that I get to get to enjoy them.

This Fuji is getting a little old, just doesn't have the ultimate resolving power or colour rendering for realistic enough photos. Just my opinion from what I've seen of the modern compacts.

Hmmm... let's not be too hasty to pull the curtain down on this one :) My first post on this (or any other Photography Forum) and as a soon-to-be owner of an S6500FD, I would be keen to keep this going as I will need some help from the experts that I have seen operating in this thread.
I currently own two Fujis, an S3000 purchased in 2003 (I think) and a S1500 purchased last year (2010) and have enjoyed both. As my understanding of the operation of these two improved, my expectations of my results increased but I soon hit the limitations and started looking for something a bit more advanced in the manual modes and higher IQ output. After much research I settled on the S6000/6500 as a suitable step up (and this thread only reinforced my desire). After months of hunting around, I finally managed to obtain one, second hand, through the local auction site at a reasonable price - Boy! These things are hard to find and they sure command a good price, so the owners certainly know a good camera when they see one :) I expect to see it arrive tomorrow or the next day and am looking forward to using it.
Finally, many thanks to all those who have contributed photos and tips to this thread - it has been very instructive and informative.
Cheers,
Allan

Well everyone it's been a while. Good to see the thread alive and well. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for my much loved S6k. The internal battery died on it around June and finally I started getting card errors in Sept. and by halloween it wouldn't even power up :(
I'm not sure of the total pictures taken but I was on pace for around 10k a year so somewhere in the ballpark of 60k pictures shot, many of which I have shared here with you fine folks.
Not bad in today's world of '6 month tech.'
Appropriately enough this shot is from the final batch of pictures taken.
