I recently have been interested in purchasing a Digital camera, and after doing a littl research, it would appear that Canon appear to make the best quality camera's. The one I am most inclined towards purchasing is the Canon Ixus 40, which I think is called the Canon Powershot SD300 in the US (details can be found here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00065GXCS/qid=1101751346/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/202-4511376-9637460)

Now then, on the site it's rated 4.5 stars, but there are only three reviews.

The purpose of the camera is that I am looking for something small, and light simply for 'point and click' purposes. Fun photography, not neccessarily serioud photography, however, if I see something nice an scenic that I would like to capture, I would like a good quality result.

Does anyone else have this camera, and can vouce for it? Will it suit my needs? Is there anything I might want to watch out for, or be wary of?

And most importantly, can I get it to work with Linux?

Hmm? No one can give me any more information on it?

Do a search in the Canon and Which Camera Should... forums. There are many threads already on the SD300 and SD200 which have lots of the information you are looking for.

either the sd200 or sd300 will be fine for you. better than fine. the best combination of smallness and image quality and features and reliability.
the extra resolution of the sd300 is quite useless IMO. 3.2mp is plenty for even an 8x10 print. so unless you're printing posters or cropping into your images substantially, the sd200 is more than enough. dont get sucked into the megapixel wars. the sd200 is slightly ligher and i think looks a little better. anyway, either one is great. clearly better than any other camera in the same size range.
the new screen is also a nice treat when comparing to the s410/s500 generation.
