Hi,
I am on the verge of purchasing a Nikon D80 and I was wondering if there are any differences between D80's from the US and UK? Obviously the plugs would probably be different (but I can buy a UK charger), but does anyone know about any differences in actual camera or warranty etc.? Also, do people think that it would be worth selling an 18-55 Nikon lens to get a 18-135mm (obviously paying more for this), if I already have a 55-200mm Nikon lens?

Thanks for you help.

While I was doing research on the D80, I found some accessories listed as international vs US. The US versions were more money and had a better warranty. I don't know how this would work in the UK however or with the camera itself.

I don't have much experience with the D80 yet, but from my film days I prefer some overlap between the lenses. It seems to keep me from switching as often. On the other hand, my father has a D50 with the 18-55 and 55-200 lenses and he is quite happy with that setup. I looked for a D80 with an 18-70 lens with the intentions of purchasing the 55-200. I could not find a D80 kit that had that lens so I wound up with the 18-135. I may still purchase the 55-200 but I may also look into something bigger like a 70-300.

Purchasing a D80 kit with the 18-135 will probably save you some cash over going with the 18-55 kit and selling / upgrading.

I have no hands on with the D80, but I would wager heavily that the cameras themselves are identical... with almost as much certainty I would bet that the chargers are the same, just the power cord is different to accomodate the difference in outlets/sockets... I can definitely say that the three Nikon chargers I have owned (CP5700, CP8700 and D50) were "universal" chargers capable of dealing with both US (110volt) and UK (240volt) input.

You will encounter problems getting any kind of service from Nikon UK for a US purchased camera, and will almost certainly have to pay for any such service you do manage to receive since Nikon UK will not honour the US warranty.

Not sure if you are planning to buy one in the US and take it home with you, or simply order on line and have it delivered, but either way you are still liable for import duty and VAT, and can be charged for that either by HM Customs when you bring it in yourself, or by the Post Office/courier before delivery, so it may not work out to be the bargain you were hoping it to be.
