is this really not a good camera? does the image quality really suffer with this camera?

how does it compare to the nikon 5200?

could the problems with the sony w1 be attributed to the person taking the picture or is it the camera's fault?

what is the best point and shoot camera for someone's first digital camera?

Here's my opinion on the Sony DSC-W1 (info gathered from reviews; I don't own the camera).

Positives: Large 2.5-inch LCD; excellent movie mode; nice design; decent amount of manual controls

Regrets: Details are smudged in photos; pictures aren't very sharp; slow autofocus under dim light

Conclusion: Compared to the Nikon 5200, you'll probably want the Nikon since it has better performance and image quality. But the Sony has some nice features too, if not first-rate performance and photos.

For "general shooting", I recommend the Nikon.
